From the Airport to downtown Athens (see also http://athenstransport.com/english/)
By Taxi:Between 05:00-24:00 (single tariff) a taxi costs €35, while between 00:00-05:00 (double tariff) €50. You can opt for the above flat rates (€35 and €50) when travelling to the inner center ring. These rates cover all extras, such as all tolls, extra luggage, etc. It is advisable to verify with the driver about this rate when you enter the taxi. All hotels and the meeting venue are inside the inner center ring. More information here:
By Train (€8, for 2 persons €14 and for 3 €20):
Note: the last train to Syntagma leaves at 23:33! Make sure you validate your ticket!
Airport tickets can be purchased from the bus drivers of airport lines, Athens Public Transport outlets, all Metro stations of Lines 1,2&3.
There are two types of trains: Metro and Suburban (Proastiakos). The airport station for both is outside the arrivals behind the Sofitel Hotel (5' minutes walking from airport exit – follow the signs "To trains"). You can reach the platform through the pedestrian bridge on the left side of the Sofitel hotel.
The venue and the rest of the hotels are accessible from the airport via the Metro Line 3 "Athens International Airport –Aghia Marina". Divani Caravel closest station is Evangelismos (7' minutes walking). Map directions from Metro Station to Divani Caravel hotel can be founde here.
Alternatively, you can also take the Suburban until the D. Plakentias Ave. station and then change to Metro Line 3. Other routes may also be available depending on exact destination. Further information can be found here.
The metro trains leave every 30' (at 03' and 33'), suburban every 15'. The duration is about 40' minutes (Airport-Syntagma).
Tip: You can check the train schedule in the arrival hall when you pick up your luggage on large monitors just before you exit.
Tip2: Be aware of pick-pockets in the metro lines in the downtown area during rush hours (e.g. when going in/out of a full coach)
By Bus (€5):
Make sure you validate your ticket!
The bus station is just outside the arrivals Schengen area. Please take line X95: SYNTAGMA-INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT which takes you very close to Caravel (there is a stop across the Hilton hotel when arriving).
The buses leave every 15' from 05:30-22:30 and every 30' the remaining hours. Bus scedules

Travel time varies with traffic (although for certain areas there are bus lanes), but normally it should be around 1 hour (after 10pm it is usually much faster).
A joint dinner with the ESFRI and e-IRG delegates was held in the evening on the 1st of April, in " Aigli Zappeiou " (Aigli of Zappeion) at 8 pm (tbc). Located in the Zappeion Gardens and next to the Zappeion Megaron (the official venue of Greek Presidency events and the meeting venue of the June e-IRG workshop), Aegli is facing the Acropolis and the Lycabettus Hill, is right next to the Kallimarmaro Stadium while is adjacent to Syntagma square and the Greek parliament. Aegli was the first building designed to serve the needs of the Olympic Games, the construction of which was sponsored by Greece's major benefactor Evaggelo Zappa.Dinner location and transport:

Except for car or taxi, the guest can easily arrive by Metro or Tram.
