e-IRG Chair, Prof. Dr. Gabriele von Voigt, on role of e-IRG in ESFRI Roadmap 2018 on Research Infrastructures in Europe

At the ESFRI Roadmap 2018 Launch Event in Vienna, Austria on 11 September 2018, e-IRG Chair Gabriele von Voigt explained the role of e-IRG in the ESFRI Roadmap 2018. She stated that e-IRG is the e-Infrastructure Reflection Group within Europe. e-IRG works very closely together with ESFRI. The e-Infrastructure Reflection Group is mainly concerned about the e-Infrastructures which form the basis for the research infrastructures. This is how the connection with ESFRI comes about, she clarified.

For the roadmap e-IRG has evaluated the projects on their e-needs. That was e-IRG’s main concern. At the moment, e-IRG also looks to all the countries in Europe, to the research infrastructures to find out how they are organized, how their governance functions, and how the services are. Are they connected, are they interdisciplinary or not? e-IRG tries to find common parts in them and tries to give recommendations or maybe even good practices as examples from one country to another country. Gabriele von Voigt pointed out that there is a lot of collaboration going on between the e-Infrastructure Reflection Group and ESFRI and she thinks it will eventually evolve to the so-called e-Infrastructure Commons which forms the basis of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).
