European Commission to organise FET Flagships - Partnering for excellence

On November 6, 2017, the European Commission in cooperation with the Estonian Presidency of the EU is organising an event called "Fet Flagships - Partnering for Excellence" in Brussels, Belgium from 10h30 till 16h15. The event takes stock of the value and importance of the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) Flagships for Europe. It will also open the discussion on how to evolve the partnering model of the FET Flagships in order to maximise their impact. The High Level Steering Committee of the Quantum Flagship will also deliver its final report.

The event will gather representatives from EU institutions, Member States, academia and industry to discuss how the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) Flagships can better address grand science and technology challenges in the future.

European Commission Vice-President Andrus Ansip, in charge of the Digital Single Market, will share his view on the importance of FET Flagships. Nobel laureate Konstantin Novoselov will deliver a keynote speech on scientific excellence in Europe.

The event will be organised in two panel discussions, gathering representatives from the Member States, European institutions, academia and industry together with representatives from the Human Brain Project, the  Graphene Flagship and from the High Level Steering Committee of the Quantum Flagship. 

  • Panel 1: Why FET Flagships are important for Europe? 
    The discussion of the first panel will focus on the relevance of Flagships, as well as on how they contribute to position Europe as a main player on the global scientific scene. 
  • Panel 2: How to maximise the impact of FET-Flagships?
    In the second panel session, European Commission, Member States and Flagships representatives will discuss the potential partnership models for Flagships to further deliver on their objectives and to maximise their impact.  

The event will also be the occasion for the expert group on Quantum Technologies to officially hand-over to the European Commission their final report specifying the research priorities and modalities for running the Quantum Technologies Flagship.
