Print Email

The sixth European Conference on Research Infrastructures (ECRI2010) will take place in Barcelona on March 23-24, 2010, under the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU. In line with the previous successful events held in Strasbourg 2000, Trieste 2003, Nottingham 2005, Hamburg 2007 and Versailles 2008, the overall objectives of the conference will be:

- to foster and develop the European Research Area through European Infrastructures;
- to boost the creation and implementation of the RI of the ESFRI Roadmap;
- to intensify the exchange of views between the Members States in order to fully implement the ESFRI RoadMap.

Following the debate on research infrastructures (RI) that took place at the Fifth European Conference on Research Infrastructures in Versailles, the Barcelona Conference will focus on:

- promoting a new European Strategy for RIs in the framework of the future Strategy for the EU2020;
- prioritising the ESFRI-RoadMap, being proposed to establish a process for the political decision-making of the selection and location of new RIs, taking into account the already existing ones;
- the e-infrastructure for Science;
- the Management and funding of the RIs within context of the ERA;
- the Governance and future of RIs within the ERA

The day before the opening, on Monday 22nd of March, the ALBA Synchrotron will be officially inaugurated, with the presence of the Spanish Minister of Science and Innovation, among other authorities.

The day after the conference, on Tuesday 25th of March, a visiting program to Research Infrastructures of interest in the area for Barcelona will be offered to the participants, including the ALBA synchrotron and the MareNostrum supercomputer.

During the conference, an international press tour will be organized, which will include the attendance to the opening and closing sessions and the presentation of the Spanish Map of Major Research and Technology Infrastructures.
