Dr. Gudmund Høst (The Research Council of Norway) was elected new Chair of e-IRG for the next two-year term (2011-2012) at the e-IRG meeting in Brussels on the 16 December, 2010. Dr. Høst has been an e-IRG delegate for Norway since 2004. He is replacing Dr Leif Laaksonen (CSC – IT Centre for Science, Finland) who has been chairing the e-IRG since 2006.
Dr. Høst, together with the e-IRG delegates, will bring forward the work of e-IRG for the next two-year term and will be supported by the e-IRG secretariat. The Chair acts in the general interest of e-IRG and no longer as a country representative, to fully represent the European e-Infrastructure interests.
”The e-IRG mission is to pave the way towards a general-purpose European e-Infrastructure. An increasingly interconnected world provides vast technological opportunities, but a culturally and territorial diverse Europe poses particular challenges. e-IRG has built its reputation through several years, and is now a key advisory body on e-Infrastructure policy in Europe. This policy-advisory role should be reinforced and expanded” says Høst.
