Fotis Psomopoulos

Dr. Fotis Psomopoulos received his doctorate and engineering diploma from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), in 2010 and 2004 respectively. In 2014 he was awarded with a post-doctoral fellowship scholarship by the AUTh Research Committee. He has worked as a teaching assistant and academic fellow at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as a Visiting Professor at Quest University (Vancouver, Canada) and as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Western Macedonia. Moreover, he has participated as a researcher and project manager in several European (RAPP, Microme, ASSIST) and national research projects. His research focus lies at the intersection of Bioinformatics, Data Mining and Cloud Computing, with over 90 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and conferences. In addition to his research, he is an active proponent of Open Science, especially within Life Sciences and Bioinformatics in particular. In this context, he was selected to be an EGI Champion on Bioinformatics in 2013, and as an RDA-EU Ambassador on Bioinformatics in 2019. Moreover, he is the deputy Training Coordinator for ELIXIR-GR, a member of the ELIXIR Training Platform Executive Committee, and the co-chair of the ELIXIR Machine Learning Focus group. Finally, since 2020 he is a member of the EOSC Skills and Training working group.
