e-IRG community deplores loss of its highly respected Delegate Dr. Lajos Bálint

Right after the second Delegates Meeting and open e-IRG Workshop under the Finnish EU Presidency ended in Helsinki, the e-IRG community with sadness heard the news that Dr. Lajos Bálint passed away on December 6, 2019.

Lajos Bálint was an active member of the NREN and Research & Education community since the early days. He was one of the founders of the Hungarian NREN in 1986, treasurer of TERENA, member of various groups including the European Research Area Board and various High-Level Expert Groups at the European Commission. He tirelessly contributed to shaping the future of R&E networking and e-infrastructure development in Europe and beyond.

He was a highly respected, influential and well-liked figure in research and education networking.

"For us he was a very good old friend and a great and very active colleague, who contributed enthusiastically to e-IRG over the many years of his presence", stated e-IRG Chair Gabriele von Voigt.

Dr. Lajos Bálint who was e-IRG Delegate for Hungary, will be sorely missed by the e-IRG community.
